Many of us wrote to our representatives initially when we heard of Ryan's disappearance. They called back, wrote and were very responsive. I think we need to write them again. Be polite and persistent!

Sample Letter to Laotian Government:
Dear ____
I want to express my concern about Ryan Chicovsky an American citizen who went missing and was last seen in Xieng Kok, Laos, while traveling on March 13. I understand the Chicovsky family has had the full cooperation of the US Embassy and Ambassador Patricia Haslach in their search for their son Ryan. With the help of the embassy and a private investigation team they have made several visits to Xieng Kok. Unfortunately, they still have no clue as to the whereabouts of their son Ryan. We respectfully request the full cooperation of the Laotian Government in this manner. Please do everything within your governments power to find him. We want to find Ryan and reunite him with his family. He was drawn to Laos because of the natural beauty of the area and people. Thank you.

I've sent letters to the Laotian government and to ours. I told everyone I know to come to this blogspot and send at least one letter to one person on the list. Thank you Sue and Heather for putting the list together.

In my experience with contacting government officials, I've found emails to be ineffective and easily ignored. In a meeting with an aide to a US Senator, I asked what was the most effective means of contacting the Senator. I was told that hand-written letters were given the most attention and are always read, with typewritten letters second. Faxes were third, then phone calls, and emails aren't on their radar.
It takes time to hand-write letters, but this situation demands that we all do whatever it takes to communicate most effectively.
